Nocturnal

Reproduction of Nocturnal (Horologium noctis or Noctilabium) constructed by Girolamo della Volpaia in 1568.
The original is in the History of Science Museum in Florence.
Having been made before the Gregorian reform of the calendar and probably with little tables accurate position of the stars, to use correctly this nocturnal, 38 days must be added to the date on which the observation is made.
It works by observing the North Star and the Big Dipper.
